Girl Love #9

Some days I wake up and feel like I've hit the ground running. I get out of bed, pour myself a glass of cranberry juice (gotta keep that urinary tract in order, ladies) and am pretty much instantly ticking things off my to-do list. And you guys know how much of a thrill I get from ticking things off my to-do list. Other days...not so much.

Like yesterday, for example. It was rainy outside and my motivation was at a solid 0.8/10. So, I stayed in bed, watched Jane the Virgin and ate Quality Street until I only had the strawberry creams left. But I think it's safe to say that I needed it because I had the best night's sleep I've had in what feels like years. I think that I'm slowly but surely learning that my self-worth is not dependent on my productivity. I'm coming to terms with the fact that, not only are self-care days okay, but that they are completely necessary. It was bloody glorious to have a total lazy day and it's left me feeling pumped to face what I'm hoping will be a productive Friday.

So, in the spirit of balance and being a badass, I thought it was about time that I did this month's edition of Girl Love, where I share with you some female online presences who have bought me joy recently, in the hopes that they can do the same for you.

The Slumflower

If you follow me on Twitter, then you will have already had Chidera retweeted onto your timeline about 1,000 times a day and this will come as no surprise to you. She is an absolute goddess who preaches body positivity, self-love and the importance of exploring yourself through her blog and all of her social media platforms. I'm particularly in love with the threads she posts which make the world a Twitter a lot more of a loving place to be. My personal favourites are "Dump Him. Do Better 2017." and "Mixed signals aren't 'mysterious'".

She apparently also has a book coming out soon and you better believe that it will be on my shelf as soon as I can get my hands on it.

Ella Masters

I've had my eye on Ella's social media platforms and blog for a while now and have always adored seeing what she's been up to, but recently I have fallen even more deeply in love with what she creates. She recently launched an absolutely glorious selection of floral homeware called "The Forgetmenot Collection". It's all so bloody beautiful. I promise, if I wasn't a student, I already would've bought five of the pieces (starting with the "the grass is greener where you water it" vase). Following her on Instagram has also given me insight into what inspires her work and how much time and energy she puts into the pieces, which only makes me respect her more.

There's little I love more than women creating careers out of their passions, so Ella truly inspires me.

Marie Forleo

Marie is an absolute powerhouse of a woman. I watch her Youtube videos over breakfast to get me into boss mode and keep my inspiration levels high throughout the day. I mean, she's done an interview with Elizabeth Gilbert about creativity and Big Magic, so what's not to love?

As the show's tagline says, it's "the place to be to create a business and a life that you love". So, there are plenty of "how tos" and discussions about the self-employed life. But, trust me, although the advice is practical, it's not boring. Hence why I click on the videos as soon as they appear in my subscription box!

  1. Love this post Bethany - you're so right, sometimes you just need a 'nothing' day to reboost the productivity and actually let your body and mind relax!

I really love the idea of Girl Love - I always love finding new blogs and accounts to follow and I try and get them from recommendations off other blogs and inspiring women I love and trust (aka yourself!) - just checking out the Slumflower's blog and I'm in love already and Marie sounds amazing too. I'm really into letting inspirational and positive people and vibes surround me right now! (which is why I loved your podcast post too! I find them so helpful and inspiring!)
