How to survive exams with The UniBox

It's that time of the year when I can practically smell the stress as I walk through campus in the form of to-go coffees and dry shampoo because, seriously, who has the time to shower when you've got 3,000 words to write in 2 hours? The library is so full that I'm worried about its structural integrity, I haven't seen my flat mates in well over 48 hours and I'm struggling to understand why we actually pay to put ourselves through this. But, alas, deadline/exam season is well and truly upon us and there's no escaping it.

Luckily though, I've teamed up with The UniBox* this month to show you some of my sure-fire ways to survive cramming sessions, as well as to show off their glorious Exam Survival box. For those of you that don't know, The UniBox is a lifestyle subscription service created just for students. That means that if you sign up you can get a selection of gifts delivered to your doorstep every single month. Yep, it is pretty much like Christmas all year round but without having to deal with your aunt asking if you're still single. After having a look at some of their incredible boxes from past months, I just knew that I had to get my hands on this one, which has been created especially to keep you motivated and calm as those deadlines loom closer. So, today I'm going to share with you how you can incorporate this month's items into an exam-season routine like no other.

The UniBox and why every student needs one

Fuel up

As tempting as it is to live off coffees and anything you can find in the library vending machine, the truth is that if you want your brain to work to the best of its ability you need to give your body some serious fuel during exam season. Think whole grains to keep your energy levels high, nuts to prevent cognitive decline and plenty of fruits and veggies because, well, nothing bad comes from eating fruits and veggies. I know it sounds impossible when your schedule is just "hit the books for 12 hours straight", but that's where The UniBox comes in. This month they've included a bunch of super tasty (trust me, I've already scoffed most of them) and super healthy treats to keep you going. Snack wise there's a salted caramel flapjack from Creative Nature which tastes like a dessert and anything but healthy, a cacao and goji bar from The Pretty Smart Food Co. and some Nim's pineapple crisps. They also included a coffee alternative for those all-nighters in the form of the Virtue Sparkling Energy Water. Yay for getting that caffeine kick without having to leave your chair to go to Costa! Since it is so important to stay hydrated whilst studying (and all of the time) the box also includes sachets of flower essence by Conscious Water to pep up your water. It's essentially squash, but a lot posher, a lot tastier and with a lot less sugar.

So basically, The UniBox have everything you need to keep you satisfied and away from that library vending machine. Or at least away from it more often...

Find your focus

With the Twitter app staring you straight in the face, meeting deadlines becomes a task akin to actually finding a seat in the library during third term. Trust me, procrastination is an old friend of mine too.

When exams or deadlines are approaching though I try to implement some phone restrictions. For me, that means downloading the Moment app as well as practicing The Pomodoro Technique. As I've spoken about before, Moment is a way of tracking your phone usage, including how long you spend on specific apps. Having it downloaded seriously helps me to put the damn thing down. It's like having an old woman wag their finger at you every time you type in your passcode. The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method that was developed in the 1980s, which essentially means splitting your time into chunks of 25 minutes where you focus on nothing but the task at hand, followed by a 5 minute break. After doing this 4 times over, you give yourself a longer 30-minute break to let your brain recover. Trust me, this is an absolute game changer as far as focus is concerned!

The UniBox have also got your back this month to help you find your focus. The box contains a pack of Bach's Rescue Plus lozenges which promote clarity and composure, whilst not tasting at all like the menthol ones you might remember from childhood sick days. Instead, they're orange and elderflower and are the kind of thing that you can polish off without even noticing! You also have the chance to get your hands on one of these motivational to-do list pads from Veronica Dearly. And you guys know how much I love a good to-do list and cute stationary. This bad boy is already sat on my desk waiting to be used.

Look after yourself

Finally, and most importantly, you have to look after yourself during exam season. As much as you may want to get a first, nothing is more important than your mental health. And if you overwork yourself you're probably going to burn out anyway!

Try to figure out when you work best and stick to those times of the day. That way not only do you ensure that you have time for you, but you'll also stop any frustration that occurs when you try hard to work but your brain just doesn't want to (for me, that's any point after 4 pm)!

And when you're not working show yourself some extra self-care. Run yourself a bath, watch some Netflix or do whatever makes you feel happy. I would also recommend trying to get more sleep during exam season which won't be a problem with the Space Masks heated eye masks that are included in this month's edition of The UniBox. Trust me when I tell you that they are absolutely dreamy. Not only do they have the obvious benefit of blocking out any light, but the heat that they produce brings a whole new level of relaxation to my bedtime routine. I didn't know that I needed them in my life, but now I can't imagine being without them! Plus, the box also includes a SebaMed cleansing bar to help to keep those stress breakouts at bay by balancing out your skin's natural PH levels.

If you do want to get your hands on this month's box of goodies, make sure that you're quick because they are selling like hot cakes. And I'm sure that you can see why! Plus, a little birdy tells me that you're definitely going to want to be on board for the next installment of The UniBox which is festival themed and fabulous. The best part is that you're lucky enough to be able to get £5 off your subscription! So whether you want to treat yourself, get a gift for someone else or convince your family that your hard work deserves a reward, simply click here to get the coupon code.

Now excuse me whilst I act all fancy with my flower essence water and heated eye mask...

  1. Wow, what a brilliant idea! I could definitely do with this stuff right now! I love the sound of all those healthy snacks and the pH balancing bar and night masks look perfect - my bags have bags right now and all this chocolate snacking and coffee isn't doing my skin much good! And I most definitely need that notebook right beside me, reminding me to stop procrastinating haha!
