Girl Love #11

It seemed only right to type up this post with my salt lamps on, a cup of homemade yogi tea and an amethyst by my side. Since I'm going to be talking about spirituality, I thought I may as well really embody it. And I have to be honest, this sure as hell beats my usual setup.

This month's edition of Girl Love is dedicated to some of the amazing women that have helped me on my spiritual journey over the last few months. Since May I kind of feel like I've become a new person. That's not to say that I'm now a mindful Buddhist who only eats kale and can meditate for 5 hours at a time, but I am much more aware of myself. I feel like my teen years were for building up my character and that my twenties are for chiseling away at it to find the most true version of me.

However, I definitely couldn't have kicked off this journey on my own. So, it's time to celebrate three incredible women who have helped change my life and might help change yours too!

Girl Love: Online spirituality resources

Meghan Hughes

I came across Meghan's channel when I was first looking into getting a menstrual cup. She posted an honest review of her experience which put me at ease and was one of the reasons I invested in the silicone beauty that I now rarely shut up about. And a menstrual cup bound is a bound for life, so obviously I now watch every one of her videos.

Even though they're all incredible, the ones that I tend to re-visit most are those on spirituality, how to use crystals and learning to meditate. Meghan speaks about things in such an accessible way. She reminds me that I don't have to have money to travel to a retreat in India or own 5 different meditation pillows to be at one with myself. She doesn't make spirituality seem clique-y, so I always leave her videos feeling more positive than I did when I started.

Gabrielle Bernstein

Okay, I'm a little bit late to the Bernstein train, but man am I glad that I'm finally on board. For those of you that have been living under a rock like me, Gabrielle is a motivational speaker, author and life coach. And you all know how much of a self-help whore I am.

I recently started listening to her book "Spirit Junkie", which is all about her own spiritual path, including exercises to kick start yours. It is incredible. I'm only half way through and it's already changed my life. Her writing style kind of reminds me of Sophia Amoruso in #GirlBoss in that she is a total badass. Add in the fact that she teaches you how to let go of harmful emotions and it's not hard to understand why this has become such a favourite of mine.

Since discovering her I've found ways of bringing her work into other aspects of my life (read: pinning her quotes constantly on Pinterest) and am endlessly stunned by the power in her words.

Cartia Mallan

Cartia was one of the first people to introduce me to the Law of Attraction and make me question my deep routed belief that manifestations were utter bullshit. Much like Meghan, she helped to make the concepts of spirituality accessible and less terrifying. The thing I love most about Cartia's videos though is that she makes it so clear that she's not a professional. It's amazing to be able to see someone's journey, without feeling intimidated because they're a total guru.

Her videos on spirituality and astrology, the law of attraction and meditation all make me feel like I'm talking to a friend, which is important when most of the people in your life don't share your beliefs.

  1. I love reading about your journey through this Bethany! I'm too new to mindfulness and spirituality but I tend to dip in and out of the Law of Attraction and the more I'm thinking about it right now the more I know it works (and am now feeling quite excited about it - especially recently!) and the more I find myself reading more into it!

I'm a self-help fanatic as well and Gabrielle Bernstein definitely sounds up my street! Thanks for the recommendation, I'm so glad you're happy with where you are at the moment!

  2. Ahhh girl, I'm so happy you've shared these I've not heard of any of these. I've just had a quick browse and I know I'm going to love them - especially Cartia! Thanks for the share lovely!
