My Christmas Bucket List

I've been listening to my Christmas playlist all day, we're playing a Youtube video of a crackling fire to give our student home the appearance of cosiness, and I feel like writing a self-indulgent, massively festive post. I've already held back my excitement for the whole of November waiting for it to be 'socially acceptable'. So, please, humour me.

Those of you that have been around these parts for a while will know that Christmas is my favourite time of year. I don't need an excuse to make my whole house smell like cinnamon and to eat chocolate before I've even left the comfort of my bed, but December gives me one, regardless. Add in the fact that I get to head home to Kent (and my family and my boyfriend and my doggies) and I just can't help but feel all fuzzy inside. However, as much as I want to spend every day this month baking cookies, I'm in my third year of university. Your girl has a to-do list the length or her arm and some pretty beefy assignments to get finished.

I'm determined to somehow balance getting decent grades with being able to fully immerse myself in the festive spirit (and the festive food). So, naturally, I wrote a list. I sat down next to our faux fireplace and put everything I want to do this Christmas down on paper, ready to be ticked off one at a time.

Dry Oranges

When I was a child, I knew that Christmas was on the horizon by the smell of my Mum drying out oranges to make Christmas decorations with. It is one of my ultimate comfort scents and I'm determined to recreate it this year.

Make some Greek Christmas treats

My boyfriend is Greek so every holiday I try to make some traditional food from Greece to make him feel like he's not so far from home. This Christmas I'm thinking diples.

All of the churros

There's a festive market near where I leave that has, among other amazing shops, a stall dedicated to the art that is the churro. Churros with Nutella. Churros with white chocolate. Churros with cinnamon sugar. I want them all.

Try eggnog for the first time

Mainly I just want to know whether a drink including egg can actually taste good...

Have a present wrapping evening

My Mum is just as much of a Christmas addict as me, so there's little we love more than lighting all of our festive candles, putting the fire on and having an evening dedicated to wrapping. Plus, she is an absolute talent when it comes to making presents look luxurious and I need all of the help I can get.

Christmas movie night

Elf. Home Alone. Nativity. Love Actually. Need I say more?

Read A Child's Christmas in Wales

One of the festive traditions on my Dad's side of the family is reading the Dylan Thomas poem"A Child's Christmas in Wales". Not only is it just a beautiful book, but it holds such a special place in my heart.

Have a pre-Christmas clear out

As you all know, I've spent a lot of this year trying to become a more conscious consumer. For the most part I've been implementing a 'one in, one out' policy. So, knowing that I'm going to have some new items in my life after the 25th, I want to have a big clear out to give to charity.

Make a gingerbread house

Because, honestly, is there anything more festive on this earth?
